I’d like to begin with saying thank you and welcome! If you are here you are a lover and enthusiast of the fantasy genre of books.
I’ve been a lover of fantasy ever since I picked up my first fantasy novel when I was 15, 30 years ago. It was Weis and Hickman’s Dragonlance: Legends. I fell in love with the genre and those characters instantly. Since then I dove head first into fantasy. I read more Dragonlance books at first then I graduated to the progenitor of modern fantasy; Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. I expanded into David Eddings, RA Salvatore, George RR Martin, and more. I am also a huge fan of Anne Rice and her Vampire Chronicles, while not technically Fantasy, I feel it is still in the realm of fantasy with supernatural beings. All of these authors and worlds have played a heavy influence on my writing style and world building.
In 2000 I started playing a online browser based game called Monarchy. Here my wife at the time and I began writing RP and the two main characters in my novel were first imagined, they were Azrael and Oriana. With other friends we made there, we RPed entire storylines and created our own world. After a year of this, it inspired me to actually try my hand in world building and actually writing a cohesive story about the characters I created and others inspired by the RP. In 2004 I started writing the very first draft of my idea and world inspired by that RP. The first drafts were, as expected, not good. I was new to this form of writing and it wasn’t the same as RPing with other characters. I had to get into the mind of each person I introduced.
After starting and stopping many times, in 2010 I studied the art of writing, join author groups, and read blogs. I talked with other new authors and published authors as well to learn and grow as a writer. I started over completely and rewrote the first book of the series and completed the rough draft in 2012. I did my own editing and had friends proof read as well and attempted to query agents in 2012-2013. It didn’t go well at all and I gave up and it’s been sitting in my hard drive until this year, 2019.
I am getting older and this series has been a passion of mine for too long to let it sit and collect dust. I needed to do something. I made the decision to self publish. While I was happy with the book in general, I knew it needed more than my own amateur editing. I hired a professional editor who did an absolutely amazing job. Around the end of July 2019, she sent me back my manuscript with many good ideas, changes, and suggestions which I am currently implementing . My hope is to have this final edit completed and hopefully self publish by the end of the year.
The book is entitled Souls of Magic’s Dawn and is book 1 of the Magic’s Souls series. I am currently building the book’s fan base and I hope you want to be a part of the amazing world of Tinil’Gan.
